Brief Notes on “Borrowed Periscope”
I'm a careful observer and often see details that others might pass by.
People have pointed out to me that what typically stands out in my work is how I see & use color.
Conditioned & trained to believe that photography is all about technical prowess...I have started to think of myself as a “maker” more than a photographer. iPhone cameras have become my standard tool because they’re pocket sized, don’t weigh much, & don’t have a lot of extra costs involved. While many serious artists frown on this, I think I should be able to make art with whatever resources are available to me, and it’s your choice whether you enjoy my output or not.
There’s still a human hand and eye behind everything I post, whether digital or analog/manual.
I do occasionally play with other cameras, other tools, & other processes —- I’ve been into collage since childhood!
In my professional life, I’ve been in the furnishings/furniture industry in some capacity for almost 20 years; before that a lot of book selling.
For other fun, you're likely to find me in the aisles of antique stores, hanging out in a junk shop, standing in line at an estate sale, or visiting a beloved vintage store.
I’m often wandering. If it's a breezy day with gorgeous light I'm probably outside exploring alleyways & parks. Otherwise, I love to be at a museum or gallery, reading a book, or maybe watching an old film. Huge fan of historic theaters, drive ins, and pop up movie spots. I’m a frequenter of local coffee shops & bookstores and my life is truly enriched by them.
Friends are family and family are friends.
What I’m showing on the site reflects consistent themes of visual interest across many years of dabbling. “Insect Series” is the most comprehensive and the requirements have always been about pattern and scale in the image.
